Architecture Is…

Architecture is…at the heart of the City of Bath’s enduring fame and popularity.  From the extraordinary remains of the Roman baths, through the innovation of the Georgians to the education and creativity of architects in the city today, the exploration of architecture impacts all who live, visit and love Bath. Surrounded by the old, new, good, bad and the yet to be built many do not even realise how vital architecture is to their everyday lives.  This project aims to encourage people to engage with, talk about and discover architecture through the idea that Architecture is…

A question, a statement, a starting point for debate, Architecture is… a series of activities, walks, talks, and events offering a wide audience the opportunity to explore and learn about architecture.

Architecture is… an opportunity for RIBA members and chartered practices to raise their profile in the city. It’s a sounding board for their ideas and their work. Through raising the profile of RIBA members in Bath, the programme tangibly demonstrates the value of being a member in the city, helping to recruit and retain members. RIBA members are also key in highlighting to professional and public audiences the value of contemporary architecture in the city – the city’s future heritage. The project stems from a vision by the late Richard Feilden, for the city of Bath to develop and host an internationally renowned architecture festival.
